The 7 Postal Divisions of Bangladesh Explained

Bangladesh Post Office organizes the country’s postal code system across seven divisions. Note that this differs slightly from the country’s eight administrative divisions — Mymensingh, split off from Dhaka division administratively in 2015, is still generally covered under Dhaka’s postal numbering in most postal datasets, including this site’s.

Dhaka Division

The largest and most populous division, home to the capital and the 1000-1999 postal code range. Covers the districts immediately around Dhaka city plus a wide surrounding area.

Chattogram (Chittagong) Division

Bangladesh’s southeastern division, covering the port city of Chattogram, the Chittagong Hill Tracts, and Cox’s Bazar. Postal codes in the 3000-4799 range.

Rajshahi Division

Northwestern Bangladesh, agricultural heartland along the Padma River. Codes in the 6000-6799 range.

Khulna Division

Southwestern Bangladesh, bordering the Sundarbans mangrove forest. Codes in the 9000-9799 range.

Barisal Division

South-central Bangladesh, a delta region crossed by numerous rivers.

Sylhet Division

Northeastern Bangladesh, known for tea gardens and hill terrain. Codes in the 3100-3899 range.

Rangpur Division

Northern Bangladesh, along the border with India. Codes in the 5000-5799 range.
